Facebook Design Camp- Design Challenge
OVERVIEW: The project was a two-week camp where participants took classes on design software and design theory. The goal of the camp was for participants to address a design challenge at the end of the camp, and the end design was a new method of interaction for users celebrating birthdays and trying to raise money. This project was my first introduction to audits, sketching and prototyping for UI/UX.
POSITION: Design Intern
TEAM: Design Team
TIMELINE: 1 week
Birthday fundraisers are a unique feature within FB that allows users to choose a specific charity that others can donate to in their honor for their birthday. This feature has become increasingly popular with millions being donated to different charities each year.
TOOLS: Figma, Adobe, Origami
Context
What are birthday fundraisers?
What’s the challenge?
How might we raise awareness and get more people interested in donating to birthday fundraisers?
The challenge was to increase awareness and donations for users celebrating their birthdays who also want to raise money for charity. The specific problem was to identify potential pain points that users may encounter or barriers that prevent them from donating.
Solution
One solution was an “in feed” widget that would allow a user to learn more about fundraisers and birthdays happening at the current time..
This would allow users the chance to see birthday fundraisers outside of the main notification tab- increasing awareness and also giving a brief synopsis of the fundraiser. It includes things like mutuals who have donated, a progress bar and the person who is hosting it.
In this model there is also two call to actions for users- either sharing it to a group, feed, or messaging group or a call to action to donate.
