daily ui challenge

Doing 100 days of 100 different challenges- each challenge/prompt is done within the timeframe of 1 hour.

For this challenge I am also applying the challenges to two projects- a Columbia Student App and a Plant Store! I want to showcase how my skills apply to broader projects instead of doing 100 different designs for different ideas.

day 1

prompt- Create a sign up page, modal, form, or app screen related to signing up for something. It could be for a volunteer event, contest registration, a giveaway, or anything you can image.

idea- Create an app for centralized Columbia information for students to easily access information, class resources and discussion boards.

day 2

prompt- Design a credit card checkout form or page. Don't forget the important elements such as the numbers, dates, security numbers, etc.

idea- Create a web page check out system that is simple to follow, merges one of my passions (plants) and has a simple and aesthetic design

day 3

prompt- What's the main focus? Is it for a book, an album, a mobile app, a product? Consider important landing page elements (call-to-actions, clarity, etc.)

idea- I decided to expand upon the store “Helia” and design the landing page. My main focus was to show a user the personality behind the brand, give a simple and concise mission of the store and to draw attention to shopping and then blog posts.

day 4

prompt- Design a calculator. Standard, scientific, or specialty calculator for something such as a mortgage? Is it for a phone, a tablet, a web app?

idea- Going back to the Columbia Central App, I thought that a calculator may not be useful especially with calculators built into our phones. So I decided to make a budgeting app for students. This app would help students with keeping track of their money throughout the semester.

If I had more time some features I would add- tips and tricks for saving money, reminders about bills (both personal and academic), and trips within the user’s budget (i.e. taking a free trip to a museum vs brunch).

This project definitely requires more than an hour of time, I would have liked to do an audit on an actual budgeting app because I have never used one before but because of time constraints I looked at other areas for inspiration.

day 5

prompt- Design an app icon. What best represents the brand or product? Or is it incredibly unique? Does it look great at a distance and does it stand out when put on your home screen alongside other apps?

idea- I designed an app icon for the Columbia Central app. While I had several iterations, including some that involved the official Columbia logos- I decided on something more simple for clarity and aesthetics. People don’t want a busy icon cluttering their phones and simpler designs look sophisticated in some circumstances. So in the end, I decided to go with a lion (representing Columbia) and a flat icon.

day 6 & 7

prompt- Design a user profile and be mindful of the most important data, names, imagery, placement, etc. Is it for a serious profile? A social profile? (It's up to you!)

Design a settings page.

idea- Create a user profile for Columbia Central involving important information.

Create a settings page to go along with it- I wanted to be mindful that most students use SSOL for most of their information. This means that students would have to use official sources to change most of their information.

day 8

prompt- Design a 404 page. Does it suit the brand's style? Is it user-friendly? It might sound mundane, but not everything can be flash or glamorous. Every day millions of people will be landing on 404 pages. You have an opportunity to help them in a way that's useful and aesthetically pleasing.(It's up to you!)

idea- a 404 page for Helia
